Unpolished Mixed Rice in Braised Cabbage Roll


Serves 4


  • 320 g unpolished healthy mixed rice, cooked
  • 1 round cabbage
  • 80 g minced chicken
  • 1 red capsicum, diced
  • 1 green capsicum, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 10 g spring onion, chopped
  • 1.5 litres chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • Salt and pepper to taste


For Gravy

  1. Cut off the cabbage stem.
  2. Blanch the whole cabbage in a pot of boiling water.
  3. Remove the outer layers of the cabbage leaves once they turn soft and place them in ice water.
  4. Put the remaining cabbage back in the boiling water.
  5. In a heated pan, sauté garlic and mined chicken, followed by the chopped capsicum.
  6. Mix chicken and capsicum with the cooked rice.
  7. Drain the cabbage leaves.
  8. Place 1 1/2 tablespoon of the rice mixture on the cabbage leaf and roll it up.
  9. Braise the cabbage roll in the simmering chicken broth for 10 mins.
  10. Thicken the stock with cornstarch.
  11. Garnish with chopped spring onion before serving.
