How do you know if your colon is not healthy?

Regular bowel checks are crucial for early detection and prevention. Another easy way to determine your colon health is to check the shape and consistency of your stools. Watch out for persistently very loose or watery stools, dry or difficult-to-pass stools, or blood in the stool or with bowel movements. They are bad signs of unhealthy colon.

How does your bowel work?

The bowel goes from the stomach to the anus. It is a hollow muscular tube. It digests all the food we eat and breaks it down into nutrients. It also expels the waste that the body cannot use as stool.

Peristalsis is the involuntary constriction and relaxation of the muscles of the intestine, creating wave-like movements that push the contents along the intestine.⁣⁣

When you experience constipation and bloating, it means that these waves have slowed dramatically.

How to keep your colon healthy?

Always practice good bowel habits as follows:

– Drink plenty of water to keep stool hydrated.

– Consume a diet that is high in fiber.

– Limit processed foods that are high in saturated fats & sodium.

– Try to go to the toilet at a regular time or times every day.
